A self-help non-profitmaking group aimed at inspiring and assisting creative writing at all levels in East Dorset.
What is The Writers’ Study?
A self-help making group founded in 2005. We meet in West Moors Memorial Hall on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, from 7-9pm. Three terms of six sessions a year.
Who can join?
Anyone from the beginner to those with experience - age is no barrier. We all write for different reasons. Some to record their memories for the family; a desire to write a novel; the excitement of entering (and perhaps winning) competitions or just the pleasure of creating short stories, articles or poetry. There are a few members who are ‘serious writers’ and do seek publication. All are catered for within the group.
What do I need to bring to the classes?
The only tools you will need are a note book and pen. Apart from that, all that is necessary is your imagination and enthusiasm.
What will I learn?
The Writers’ Study is NOT a teaching class. Friendly self-help is the basis of the group and through this you’ll have the opportunity to read and discuss your writing and gain constructive feedback. You’ll learn by listening and reviewing the writings of other members. We’ll help you to find markets for your writing and how to locate an agent/publisher. We hold workshops, have talks by known writers, enjoy in-house competitions and the occasional social event.. Our aim is to make writing fun.

What will it cost?
A charge of £20 per term covers the cost of room hire, refreshments, administration, stationery, prizes for competitions, fees for speakers and tutors and other events. We are non-profit making and accounts can be seen on request.
In order to ensure numbers and guarantee your place, the fee for six sessions (one term) is payable in advance on enrolment or re-enrolment. Fees paid will be refunded only on cancellation of a session(s).
