Wizard Stories

Wizard Stories - an interactive storytelling company now touring to schools and other venues throughout London and the South East of England.

Wizard was launched by Gary Potter and Phil Keating (both gay) in 2001. The company, which is based in Waltham Forest, North East London, successfully performed to over 10,000 children, young people and adults within its first six months of trading.

Wizard storytellers work with children, young people and adults to create an individual story for each group, enhance creative writing with story structure workshops, provide drama and story-theatre sessions and even offer interactive song writing sessions! All our sessions are interactive, with a strong focus on learning.

Our storytellers gather ideas from the group then, using original music, sound, curious objects and narrative skill, tantalise and transport the listener to faraway landscapes, full of colourful characters performing daring deeds. Each Wizard story is as unique as the group that meets to listen, imagine and create.

Wizard has continued its success with residencies in the Old Station Museum, helped to regenerate a whole corner of Canning Town and Custom House in East London and has even been invited to the States for a summer tour.

Wizard's Aims and Objectives:

1) To enhance and enrich learning and oracy by enabling the children, young people and adults to have direct experience of working with a professional storyteller.
2) To impact directly on the children, young people and adults' listening and speaking skills, as they are encouraged to formulate, articulate and share ideas with each other and the storyteller to construct the narrative, and direction of each story.
3) To enhance the children, young people and adults' understanding of narrative structure, and inspire the children to embark on their own creative writing projects within and outside of the classroom.
4) To provide an educational, informative, creative and fun experience for the children, young people, adults and staff.

At present Wizard has secured residencies in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. We are also discussing residencies with other LAs as well as The National Trust and Tate Gallery.
