The Toddington Poetry Society, which was conceived in 1977, is open to all who enjoy reading, writing or hearing poetry. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month.Visitors are always very welcome.
Meetings include:
- Established poets reading from their own work, with time for discussion. We have hosted many acclaimed poets, including Andrew Motion, Simon Armitage, Roger McGough, Matthew Sweeney and U A Fanthorpe.
- Informal topic evenings . For these, you are encouraged to write and read your own poems, or to find favourites from past and present poets to fit the theme.
Other activities which broaden the appeal of the society, such as outings, exhibitions, close readings and workshops. Sometimes poetry is combined with jazz or other music.
The atmosphere is friendly, with an emphasis on informality and enjoyment. TPS has gained strength and popularity with its willingness to experiment.
