Scribblings was formed specifically to help young writers.
It was relaunched in October 2003 and now meets once a month at the Pen Lloyd Library, Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough, LEICESTERSHIRE, on a Tuesday between 6:30 - 7:55 p.m.
It is run by myself with no costs to the members
in a workshop based system helping the members (aged between 10 - 19 years) to improve their writing.
Scribblings would like to make contact with other groups in the UK or overseas who cater for young writers.
January news from Clara at Scribblings:
Hello Writers!
Scribblings here (or rather Clara here) just to inform you of my new email
address greenman962@hotmail.com which can be given out to the whole wide
world. (sounds scary put like that!)
Scribblings is going well and I'm slowly (for daytime job has been extending
into night time) catching up with emails etc. Lots of interest going on at
Scribblings at the moment, may have 10-12 members at the next meeting and
I've had an author contact me saying he would like to run a workshop. I'll
be dammed if I can remember his name though. (for he phoned me while I was
working underneath a car!)
We also have a logo (as designed and nominated at last meeting) which I'll
send to you as soon as its on the computor
Keep on smiling.
Clara

About Scribblings:
Now run by local writer Clara, it is the brainchild of local author Steve Bowkett and Scribbles, Market Harborough’s adult writers' group, which has been in existence for 17 years.
In the course of his work visiting schools Steve meets many young people who enjoy writing for pleasure; some of them aim to make a career of it. Yet outside and sometimes inside the classroom there seems to be a general lack of facilities for allowing young writers to develop their potential. Scribblings (which is believed to be the only creative writers’ group just for young people in the United Kingdom) intends to address this issue.
The group is open to all young people aged between 10 – 18 who are interested in writing creative fiction and poetry.
The group meets at Pen Lloyd Library, Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough between 6:30 – 7:55 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
The group is being supported by Chris Jones (Leicestershire Literature Officer), Pen Lloyd Library staff, the Scribbles writers’ group, and the National Association of Writers’ Groups.
We aim to:
- Provide support and encouragement to all young writers who attend.
- To provide access to information relevant to members’ writing needs and, as far as is possible, create opportunities for group members to meet experienced writers (including published authors) and professional publishers.
- To offer guidance to members on career opportunities to creative writing.
