HAZELWOOD HOUSE, NEAR KINGSBIDGE, DEVON
Anne Aylor course:
So You Want to Write A Novel (Course 30) (Residential or non-residential)
WHAT kind of novelist are you? What sort of book do you dream of
writing? Have you found your subject matter? If you’re pushed for time
and haven’t written before, how do you make the space to begin a
manuscript? This 3.5 day course will consist of lectures, timed
exercises and readings that will give you the freedom and confidence to
develop your ideas on paper. The weekend will include:
• techniques to start writing/develop a novel already in progress
• advice on how to arrange and expand your material
• a chance to create new work during the workshop that feeds into
your manuscript
• sessions covering topics such as "Characterisation", "Point of
View", "Setting", "Plotting" and "Editing"
• the opportunity to have writing read and discussed
• 2 "Open Mic" nights for those who wish to share prepared work
(voluntary)
This course, normally taught over a month and a half in six 2.5 hour
sessions, is one of the most popular workshops I teach. Due to high
student demand, I am offering this special weekend workshop covering
the entire module. The workshops will be conducted in a friendly,
constructive atmosphere and is open to anyone with a desire to write,
from beginners to publlished novelists.
